join legs to body

Hi!! I am in the middle of my first reject (Ming the kitten) and am having an issue with how the legs go on to create the body. Every time I join the legs I just end up with a flat straight line not the oval shape that can be stuffed. I am following the pattern and after joint them I am single crocheting into the front and backs of each legs but still just a flat straight line...

Hi Kelly, hi Jenna,

You're right, the legs are closed first with 7 stitches. To connect them, you work 7 sc in the front loops, then turn and work 7 sc in the back loops  before going to the next leg.

So where it says "front side", we mean "front loops", same for "back side", being "back loops".

Rnd 1: ch 4, sc in next 7 st of the front side of the right leg, ch 1, turn, sc in next 7 st of the back side of the right leg, sc into edges of each of next 4 ch, sc in next 7 st of the back side of the left leg, ch 1, turn, sc in next 7 st of the front side of the left leg [36]

I hope this helps?

We might need to edit this in a next print run to make it more clear!

This part has been edited in the 7th print run of "Amigurumi Treasures" and now states:

Rnd 1: ch 4, sc in next 7 front loops of the right leg, ch 1, turn, sc in next 7 back loops of the right leg, sc into edges of each of next 4 ch, sc in next 7 back loops of the left leg, ch 1, turn, sc in next 7 front loops of the left leg [36]

Just got my pattern book and sadly I too am having trouble starting the body.  I’ve got the legs OK, and the first “round” with the chain 4, but it just doesn’t look right.  I’ve ripped out 3 times before figured out to do “front” loops & “back” loops, which I confirmed here.  Is there any way to persuade the designer/ author to post a tutorial for the challenged?  I see that I am not the only one having issues with this.

Can you please explain to me how I just keep ending with a flat body I have decided to not flatten legs as I can't work any other way even using front and back loops only 🤣🤣🤣 thanks for your time xx

I need help! This is my first project.  Also having problems with legs.  I must be being stupid.  I finished off left leg and then chained 4 to join to right leg.  If I have to work first 7 sc on the right front leg doesn't this mean you are trying to crochet from left to right (the wrong way) ????

When closing the legs, your stitches will have a V-shaped pleated top. The stitches consist of a front loop (towards you) and a back loop (away from you).

Round 1: After closing the left leg, you do not fasten off, but you immediately make 4 chains. You then insert your hook in the first FRONT LOOP ONLY of the right leg. You work 7 sc in the front loops only. You are then at the end of the right leg and make a ch 1. You turn your work. The remaining back loops are now at the front. You continue crocheting into these remaining BACK LOOPS ONLY and work 7 sc in them. You are now at the end of the right leg. You continue working in the 4 chain stitches and work a sc in each of them. You are now at the start of the left leg. Repeat the same instruction for the left leg, working in front loops first, then turning the piece and continuing in the back loops only.

The terms "Left" and "right" are always based on the animal's viewpoint. If we mention a left leg, this is not necessarily on the left side (if you turned your piece).

I hope this helps?
